Optimize Product Titles - Duplicate Keywords

Product titles should be as clear and concise as possible while still providing all of the relevant information about a product. For channels like Google Shopping or Amazon Marketplace, there is an actual character limit to deal with, but even on your own site you want to clearly communicate your product without being repetitive.

Reason for Test

The ideal product title communicates as much about the product as possible in the allotted space. If you are communicating the same piece of information multiple times we call that duplication. In the product title: Multi-Light Pendant Light 3-Lights, we see the word “Light” three times. This isn’t necessarily bad but is it optimal? Probably not. Would be much better to consolidate as Multi Light Pendant 3-Lights or even 3 Light Pendant.

How We Identify Errors

In our Product Title Evaluation, duplication is identified by checking if the same word (or root word) is being used multiple times. Of course, it's not quite that simple as there are some cases where duplication is appropriate.

  • I Yam What I Yam T-Shirt
  • Girls Girls Girls T-Shirt

In these cases we will not be flagging duplication as the duplication is purposeful and meaningful.
